Sajjangad-the fort :Geographical Information

Location :Village - Parali, Taluka &District- Satara, State- Maharashtra, India.

Height- 900 meter from Sea level and 300 meter from the bottom of the fort. Circumfurence- 1668 meters

Other names of this fort- Ashwalayangada, Aswalgada, Fort of Parali, Praligada, Navsataragada, Naurastara.

Important places on this fort- Shriram Mandir and Samartha Ramdasa Samadhi Mandir, Samartha Matha (Living place), Anglai Mandir (Temple), Bramhapisa, Dhabyacha Maruti temple.

Stay of Saint (Rushi) Ashwalayan

10-11 Century

The King Shilahara build the fort and named as Aswalgad.

1358-1375

Fourth Bahamani King Mahammahadshaha won the fort in battle and was called during his times as Fort of Parali.

1632

Then Adilshaha won the same and named as Navarsatara. Fazalkhan Son of Afzalkhan stayed here as manager (Killedar) of the fort.

1673 (2nd April)

The King Shivaji the great won the fort.


1673 (6th Jan.)

Shri Samartha Ramadas Swamy alongwith his followers (Shishya) came to this fort for long stay here.

The King Shivaji the great and his family stayed on this fort with Shri. Samartha.

1678 (Dec.)

Son of The King Shivaji the great- Sambhajiraje, his wife Yesubai and daughter Bhavanibai stayed with Shri Samartha on the fort.

1678 (13th Dec.)

Sambhajiraje ran from kingdom of The Shivaji and visited Dilerkhan - the Sardar of Adilshah.

1682 (22nd Jan.)

Mahanirvan of Shri. Samartha Ramadasa Swamy.

1700 (9th June)

Aurangjeb won the Sajjangad fort.

1709

The Maratha kings won Sajjangada again.

1721 (11th Oct.)

Saint Smt.Akkabai expired.

1898

British won the fort.

1953

Saint Shri. Shridharswamy came to the fort.

1982 (29th Jan)

"Shri Samartha Niryan Trishatabdi Samaroha" Three hundredth ceremony of expiration of Shri. Samartha.
